Ooooh!!! Look What I'm Gonna Do!!

I went to Barnes & Noble last week and spent a ton of time looking at cookbooks. I was looking for a good Vietnamese and a good Thai cookbook and wouldn't ya know it... Mai Pham wrote the perfect cookbook for me. I came home and looked it up on the internet to see if I couldn't find a better price. Gotta love Amazon!

She started the Lemon Grass Restaurant and Cafes in Sacramento and it is very popular. The recipes look good and the ingredients should be available to us for the most part, here in the BIG city.

I'm so so excited to learn how to do some of these recipes really well and serve 'em up to family and friends...

In reading through the first few pages it looks like I need a good sized stone Mortar and Pestle, a rice cooker and a good Wok. Once I've obtained these items, I'll be ready to start shopping and cooking. I expect I'll have the nutritional information, menu plan and shopping list all put together by then.
It's going to take me a while to get these items as finances are tight.... which just gives me more time to shop a deal!! I'm so excited!!!

Has my life changed since releasing 30 pounds from by body???

Here is a blog from sparkpeople from a lady on one of the teams I'm on. I thought this was pretty good!

As a background, sparkpeople gives you a topic to reflect on and blog about... if you wanna.

Has my life changed since releasing 30 pounds from by body???

Weekly Weigh-In (#16)

Last Week: 169.9
Today: 168.4
This Weeks Down: 1.5 pounds
Total Down since Feb 8: 25.4 pounds

This week I hit the 25 pound mark. I've had my eye on that target for awhile now and it feels so good to get there.
I haven't had a latte in weeks... strictly herb tea and not the red tea latte either. I miss it, some, but my plans for the future involves a small on a Saturday morning, and never to go back to a daily cup. I can handle that, coffee drinks are good, but it's not worth the trade off on the scale to do it everyday and I don't want to spend all my calorie cash / points for the week on a beverage. There are too many foods, yummy yummy foods out there and I don't want to miss out.
I've been tracking my food intake like my success depended on it.
Dennis is so involved lately and is doing really good on his Atkins plan and is being very supportive. He's lost just over 10 pounds this month and the inches are really showing. Go Babe!!!
Oh yeah we did inches... I had a suspicion that most of my inches lost came from my breasts, happily no, but they are a close second runner, lol.

Biggest Loser Competition Update

If you remember, I mentioned joining a "Biggest Loser" competition. It started out around the 9th of March. We haven't received many updates on how the contest is going. I think the last we heard was over a month ago.
We are coming up on the last three weigh-ins. The contest is over June 15th and there are two prizes. One for the most exercise minutes... which I have given up on long ago and the highest %Body Weight Lost. Today I"m at 10.3% (for the competition) and I really couldn't tell you if that's going to do it or not. It all depends on everyone's continued progress. I think the leader a month ago had lost 7%. If they stayed on losing at the same rate... they will be very hard to catch.
A person who started out at a lower starting weight and lost the same amount of weight can beat my numbers and a person who started out higher would have to lose more than me...
The nice thing about this contest is if you lost anything you've won on a personal level and you know that whoever wins, really has achieved something great and you get to contribute to their reward. It's a feel good situation whether you win or not. :)

Weekly Weigh In (#15)

Last Week: 171.6
Today: 169.9
This week down 1.7 pounds!!

This is the second day I've been able to start my day in the 160's. I'm really excited to see it every morning...
I think my body had lived at 170-175 for so long (a couple of years) that it thinks that this is where it is supposed to be. I'm having a hard time seeing 160's for more than one day at a time. I'm sure this next week will be the week to see it more often though.
I'm very happy with my progress lately! It really helps with the motivation too!
Husband is losing weight too and we're both excited about the way our hugs feel different lately!! It's so nice! I'm starting to feel more fit!!
I'm not on Weight Watcher Website anymore... subscription ran out. I'm feeling a bit cut off by this, out of the loop so to speak. I'm using the website SparkPeople though and love it. There is so much to this website and the more time I spend on it the more cool things I find. I'm really tracking every meal these days and am ultra focused, and I've been weening myself from the WW website. I think the biggest thing I'll miss is their recipes.

End of an Era

If you want to call it that. I wasn't at it all that long. I've made the decision to stop couponing. It is with mixed emotions that I choose to quit.

In many respects I enjoyed the work that went along with it and I did like taking advantage of the savings...

However, I keep thinking about the popular metaphor where you have a bucket that represents your life and time and then you have all these rocks that you put into the bucket that represents the way you spend your time. Other priorities are suffering... like housework and um housework.

So I got on PinchingYourPennies.com and made it known that my binder and the unfiled coupons from last week were up for grabs for the first person with cash in hand. It was spoken for in less than 10 minutes and for the same price I paid for it initially. I am glad it's over... and sad it's over. I learned a lot from the process and had fun with it. Now I'm off to clean.

Speaking of filling my bucket, to be fair, coupons are not the reason the house is behind, but it is one of the reasons. The other reasons... well I'm working on keeping my hands off the computer more and busy with housework more. I'm improving, but I have a ways to go. The other is just plain not procrastinating at the housework. I love being organized and clean, I just need to put some time in and I'll be there again.

Weekly Weigh-In (#13)

Last Week: 177.1
Today: 175.6
This Weeks Down: 1.5 pounds
Total Down since Feb 8: 18.2 pounds

Down 1.5 pounds from last week! This is the 4th week in a row in the right direction! Woohoo!

I put my Wedding Ring back on last night. Fits beautifully! I didn't have to take it off until about a month ago... about when I started drinking that tap water. I'm so happy to have it back on.

Baton Rouge Success!

Traveling has always been a challenge for staying on plan with regards to what I eat and exercise. Not so this trip! Go me!!

With some advanced planning I was able to pack some healthy snacks... celery, apples, red pepper slices, dried apricots, radishes, grapefruit, and whole grain crackers.

They always have a ton of junk food available ALL day at these meetings, and SOMETIMES they have healthy snacks. Today's lunch for instance had no fruit or vegetable in sight, unless you count the leaf of lettuce on the hoagie sandwich. So I was able to snack on my red pepper slices instead of the cookies and I stayed away from the candies that someone was kind enough to pick up and sit next to me on the table. Good kinds too.

This really is doable for me, in less than ideal, situations. I just have to make a mental plan ahead of time and do whatever I need to do to prepare.

I also didn't want to go down to the hotel gym and work out, mainly because I didn't have tennis shoes. So instead, I googled "hotel room workouts" and actually found a video to workout to. I did 15 minutes strength training type exercises tonight and I am tired. My legs feel like jello.

I should probably try to get some crunches in so my tummy gets a workout, huh? Maybe after I catch my breath.

PS. I did do crunches later. My legs are sore today. (Saturday) Efforts are paying off. Can't wait for weigh in day!!

Passionate Blogger Award

Trish gave me this Passionate Blogger award, (so nice!) and it requires that I list five things I am passionate about. It also requires that I tag 5 more people.

1. My Man!
I am passionately in love with my husband, Dennis. He is my best friend, and he's really sexy, so it's easy to be passionate about him.

2. Family
The further I get in life the more and more I realize that Family and those relationships and experiences with those I love are the most important life experience that I have collected so far.

3. Financial Freedom
I am passionately working towards this goal and am about to go get jazzed up and all "gazelle intense" about it at the Dave Ramsey live event this next weekend.

4. "Releasing" the extra weight I don't need. I am very passionate about that. (Recently I heard someone saying that they don't like the term "losing weight" because it implies that at some point the other action will follow... "finding the lost weight". I thought that was pretty good. It does sound a bit new age, but I'm okay with that.

5. Cooking
Cooking and Feeding those important to me is part of my love language. I really enjoy it a lot when I can plan a meal or a dish and it makes others go YUM!

I award this to Allysa, Jamie, EJ, Amy, and Mom. Copy the pic into your blog and let us know your passions! Pass it on to 5 people if you can/choose!

Thanks for the Award Trish! This was fun.

That Does Look Better!!! (Weekly Weigh-In #12)

Last Week: 179
Today: 177.1
Down 1.9 pounds this morning. Yay!!

Do I feel better? Yes, definitely, but it's not as noticeable a difference as when I was exercising regularly.

I feel accomplished, and I don't feel so tired after lunch, but not really healthier... I feel more in charge of me, more in control when it comes to what I put in my mouth. I feel like I have a choice.

I like that. I like it a lot.
This is me at about 30% of the way to my goal..

And me in the beginning...

48 hour Acai Berry Detox Stuff

I did a cleanse about 6 days ago. Some cleanses require a fast, but since I don't do well when I get hungry I found one that let you eat while you do it. You drink this juice with some water in between meals and ... actually that's it. Easy Peasy.
I'm not sure that it does much more than what say prune juice would do... but it made me feel like I did something. I felt bloated the whole time, I think that's because I was drinking our tap water. A LOT of tap water (with water softener salt in it)... ;)
Today I didn't drink that water, I drank bottled water, and it's the first day in about a week that I felt normal again.

Yummy Dinner

Dennis grilled a ton of veggies and some chicken on the grill today and tonight he used the leftovers to make dinner. It was SO good!

I'm excited to have propane and just a little sunshine again. I'm getting excited for summer fun!!

There was lots of family over today. Sister, Daughters, G-Babies and Nieces and Nephew. I am so so happy!! I loved seeing everyone.

They say it's not the problem, but...

I went to the Doctor and had my Mirena IUD taken out. It's been in for 4 years and although there were some great benefits, like WAY lighter periods and leveling out mood swings due to hormones... there was something bothering me. Some women experience weight gain on it.

The Nurse Practitioner said that she would do whatever, I want, but what I feel was slow weight loss due to hormones was more likely due to my "sluggish metabolism" now that I'm not as young as I once was. I looked at this twenty something "professional" and decided she looked like the type to smoke crack, and that her opinion therefore was deeply flawed. "Take it out." I said.

Well, to be fair, she didn't look like she smoked crack at all, and she looked and acted very professional, but nonetheless, I decided not to take a chance of the Mirena being even a tiny bit of a hindrance to weight loss.

I've also decided to shift my focus from points to calories for awhile and use some of the stuff I learned from weight watchers to help me make good choices. (Which means I'll be looking for high fiber and very little fat.) We'll see how that goes.

I'll be looking to average a certain amount of calories / week. I'm also getting rid of most breads... ugh. I hate it, but it's temporary. Later I'll do them again, once I'm ready to maintain.

I don't feel like I'm failing, I just feel like I wanna get to goal a bit faster then 1/2 a pound a week. :)

PS. I discovered my lemon water idea had a bit of a flaw... see comments on my last post for explanation. Who'd a thunk it?
